What is Preventative Medicine ?

Well by definition its supposed to alert or warn of something that is or has a probability of happening.

Medical check-ups in the UK are what only can be described as abysmal today in the majority of cases.

We have had patients come into the clinic, telling us how they paid for a check up in a well man / women clinic and the doctor checked their blood pressure, you know the real ground breaking stuff !

The real exciting part was, it was their own GP, well, whoopee and slap my thigh !

These are 'skills' that should be used as a normal part of checking a patient without them having to pay, that should be done by their own GP, well according to the Government and the NHS it is anyway !

Bring back the 'old style' GP, somehow their skills have been lost or are now not practiced as they used to be, its all to do with time ?

Darkfield Photo - Everything's OK ?

The above darkfield photo is of a patient who was told everything was OK, don't really think so ?

Cold extremities, no energy, out of breath easily, told everything OK, "its just your age", at 32 years old ?

No we are not having a go at doctors, just the system, this persons blood test results came back to the GP as normal, mmmmmmm ?

To emphasise the above point, the British Heart Foundations marathon running was started by a guy who dropped dead with a heart attack while doing a marathon, the gentleman had excellent intentions, but paid for them with his life.

If he had the same blood as in the photo above no wonder, so exercise at your own peril without being checked out first is the moral of the story.

Another patient who was not feeling too well, but came in with physical problems, but was actually saying something else was going on during her consultation, was tested and found to have tyrosine crystals she was referred back to her GP, who in all fairness had an open mind and further tests carried out, to find that there was a liver problem.

Interestingly the lady saw a locum, who after listening to her short story and why she was attending for her results, poo poohed that a non doctor could find this, until he saw the liver function test results !

I have no doubt whatsoever that doctors also have their own stories in reverse, no one is perfect.

This isn't helped by the fact that a lot of patients presume that the doctor knows everything, which is quite unfair, as no one knows everything, if your not truthful and don't tell the GP everything what is happening, how do you expect the GP to help you ?

This has been compounded by someone from the medical fraternity coming up with the statement that a lot of doctors use "what do think is wrong with you" ?

The person wouldn't be there if they knew, and it makes a farce of the consultation process, plus it doesn't, from a patients 'eyes' put the doctor in a highly intellectual capacity, even though honestly and truthfully they are really.

I rather wish we had the 'old style' of preventative medicine that was practised in China with acupuncturists.

Where you attended the practitioner and paid for being maintained (just like your car), if you became ill, then the practitioner treated you for nothing, no payment until you were better.

If the practitioner lost a patient (they died), then the practitioner had to put a small flag or disk outside their door / clinic, so that people could at an instant see how good they were in  maintaining peoples health.

If the practitioner was found to have lost a patient and not displayed a flag / disk, then they were beheaded !

Now that's what I call preventative !

We are as a society today not encouraged to seek a check-up until something is wrong or happening that stops us enjoying ourselves or there might be an insurance claim in the offing.

Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to this mind set.

The statement that "Health is Wealth" only becomes apparent when your ill and can't earn money or enjoy yourself, then its back to the morning after the night before statement of "never again", well not until next time, BUT, there are only so many next times with ill health, look at the cemeteries if you don't believe it !

So where is all this leading to ?

Well its leading to the facts that GP's are driven just as anyone by time.

Unfortunately, this time is not enough in many cases.

So we end up with a backlog of patients within the NHS who are on what I call, 'on the magic merry go round', and not really getting anywhere fast.

If modern acupuncture techniques and equipment were used, this would target the areas of concern that needed attention most as a priority, but it needs time to do this diagnostically.

The savings made in a patient seeing the correct type of consultant / specialist would be far more advantageous than the present system as it is now running.

The final 'hurdle' in this actually happening is 'etiquette', doctors see this as usurping their authority, when really the patients well being is at heart, so to speak.

Maybe a reverse of this, that should be asked is why has this person seen another practitioner ?

What am I missing or not doing for this person, that this particular practitioner can provide ?

True science is observation, these techniques work and have been observed to do so, the public has to ask the question of why are they not used more conventionally in primary diagnosis, or better still as the title of this page suggests, as a preventative ?

The answers are numerous and really a book in their own right.
